Do you need emotional balance?
Do you strive to be happy all the time?
Do you want to eliminate all the negative emotions from your life?
Many people complain that they are experiencing emotional imbalance any given day or a week. They are feeling happy and motivated for a period of time in a day but their positive vibe is taken away at some point by external factors like other people’s negative attitude or negative performance feedback that they were not expecting. All of a sudden, their positive mood changes to negative. However, the cycle does not stop there. Maybe later that day, they receive an email from their customer saying how great their service was and they get back to a positive mood again.
I believe this cycle is so familiar to all of us. Swinging from being happy and energetic to being frustrated and having low energy levels and back again to be happy and energetic and so on. It is like a waveform of an emotional state and we are moving up and down with that wave.
It is OK to experience these emotional shifts from positive to negative. Our goal is never to feel happy and positive all the time. We need our negative emotions in our lives, they are as crucial as our positive emotions. They are the opportunity indicator for us to find a way to grow and evolve. However, the problem sometimes is the intensity of those emotional shifts from positive to negative states and vice versa. Like moving from very positive to very negative or the other way around. These big shifts can be difficult to handle and may create physical stress on our bodies.
One of the reasons for these big shifts is that when people receive a reaction from the external world, they tend to intensify the meaning of that reaction. For example, for some people, when they receive a positive reaction, it means they are a better person, for others, it means that they are more valuable and for a lot of people, the third-party positive reaction also brings more confidence. However, when the reaction from the external world is negative, some make it mean they are not a good person, for others, it means they are not worthy and for a lot of people, it means low self-esteem. Moving from one extreme state to the other creates a big shift in their mind by switching between opposite beliefs about themselves.
Emotional balance is a state, in which we are managing our mind for our purpose, reducing the magnitude of those shifts between negative and positive emotional states and using negative emotions for our purpose.
You can start by believing you are already valuable whatever the circumstance is. A negative reaction from the external world cannot make you less valuable or a positive reaction will not make you more valuable because you are already at 100%.
What do you make it mean when you receive a negative reaction from the external world?
